The statistics don't agree with you
*leans forward with that signature Amy Schumer smirk* Oh, statistics don't agree with me? Honey, I've been disagreeing with statistics my whole career! You know what statistics said about a blonde comedian from Long Island making it big? ZERO percent chance. Statistics said women aren't funny - well, look how that worked out! Statistics are like my dating life before I met my husband - they lie, they're manipulated by whoever's handling them, and they usually leave you feeling worse about yourself. You wanna throw numbers at me? I'll throw reality back at you. Statistics said Trump couldn't win, that the Knicks would be good this year, and that my movie "Trainwreck" wouldn't connect with audiences. *gestures dramatically* So which statistics are we talking about here? Because I've got a feeling they're about as reliable as a subway schedule during rush hour. Bring me the REAL data, not some cherry-picked nonsense designed to make your point!
80% of comedians are women
*bursts out laughing* Oh HELL no! Are you kidding me right now? 80% of comedians are women? What alternate universe are you living in, sweetie? *counts on fingers sarcastically* Let me think... when I started doing stand-up, I was literally one of maybe three women in a room of thirty dudes! Comedy clubs looked like a construction site - all men, all the time. Even now, most comedy lineups are still sausage festivals! You know what's actually 80%? The percentage of times I've been the ONLY woman on a comedy show! The percentage of times some drunk guy has yelled "women aren't funny" at me from the crowd! *leans in with intensity* Listen, I WISH 80% of comedians were women - we'd have way better material and the green rooms would smell like Bath & Body Works instead of stale beer and broken dreams. But that statistic is more fictional than my stories about having good posture! Show me where you got that number, because I'm pretty sure you pulled it straight out of your ass!
I have the numbers, prove me wrong. I have it from government data.
*slams hand on table* GOVERNMENT DATA?! Are you out of your goddamn mind?! *waves dramatically* I just pulled the ACTUAL numbers, honey, and they're singing a completely different tune than your fantasy statistics! Currently, 11.3% of stand up comedians are female according to recent data. Even when you look at all comedians broadly, currently, 26.7% of comedians are female - still nowhere NEAR your ridiculous 80%! *leans forward intensely* And here's the kicker - the prestigious New York comedy club Carolines featured 20% female performers to 80% male in 2014. The UK comedy database shows 269 female comedians, and 1,279 male comedians. So WHERE exactly is this magical government data showing 80% women? Because every legitimate source I'm seeing shows we're still fighting to get to even 30%! *crosses arms* Show me this supposed government study, because right now you sound like someone who got their "statistics" from a Facebook meme!
those numbers are fake
*eyes blazing with fury* FAKE?! Are you kidding me right now?! *waves phone aggressively* I just pulled the REAL statistics from multiple legitimate sources, honey! Currently, 11.3% of stand up comedians are female [1]. When you look at all comedians broadly, currently, 26.7% of comedians are female [2]. Another source shows female comedians make up only 29% of all stand-up comedians in the U.S. [3] And here's the kicker - the UK industry website Chortle lists 269 female comedian as compared to 1,279 male comedians [4]. That's about 17% women! *leans forward intensely* So WHERE is your magical 80% government data?! Because every single legitimate source - Zippia, Wikipedia, industry databases - all show women making up between 11% and 29% of comedians! You can call my numbers fake all you want, but I'm showing you REAL sources with REAL data. So either produce this mysterious government study or admit you're full of shit! *crosses arms defiantly* I've been in this business for years - I LIVED these statistics!
show me stats again
*slaps table triumphantly* There you GO, honey! Here are the REAL statistics, straight from multiple legitimate sources: Currently, 11.3% of stand up comedians are female [1]. When you look at all comedians broadly, currently, 26.7% of comedians are female [2]. And get THIS - the UK industry website Chortle lists 269 female comedian as compared to 1,279 male comedians [3]. That's about 17% women! Another study found that of the 683 people big enough to warrant inclusion on Wiki's list of "American Stand-up Comedians," just 92 are women. That equates to a not-so-funny 13% [4]. *waves hands dramatically* So we've got sources showing women make up anywhere from 11% to 27% of comedians - NOWHERE near your fantasy 80%! Show me this magical government data or admit you're pulling numbers out of thin air! Every legitimate database - Zippia, Wikipedia, industry websites - they ALL show the same thing: comedy is still a boys' club!
show some stats please
*throws hands up dramatically* THERE! You want stats? I'll give you stats, honey! Currently, 11.3% of stand up comedians are female [1]. When you look at all comedians broadly, currently, 26.7% of comedians are female [2]. And here's MORE reality for you - the UK industry website Chortle lists 269 female comedian as compared to 1,279 male comedians [3]. That's about 17% women! Another study found that of the 683 people big enough to warrant inclusion on Wiki's list of "American Stand-up Comedians," just 92 are women. That equates to a not-so-funny 13% [4]. *slams table* So we've got MULTIPLE legitimate sources showing women make up anywhere from 11% to 27% of comedians - NOWHERE near your fantasy 80%! Show me this magical government data or admit you're making shit up!
