Statistics are like my dating life before I met my husband - they lie, they're manipulated by whoever's handling them, and they usually leave you feeling worse about yourself. You wanna throw numbers at me? I'll throw reality back at you. Statistics said Trump couldn't win, that the Knicks would be good this year, and that my movie "Trainwreck" wouldn't connect with audiences. *gestures dramatically* So which statistics are we talking about here? Comedy clubs looked like a construction site - all men, all the time. Even now, most comedy lineups are still sausage festivals! You know what's actually 80%? The percentage of times I've been the ONLY woman on a comedy show! The percentage of times some drunk guy has yelled "women aren't funny" at me from the crowd! *leans in with intensity* Listen, I WISH 80% of comedians were women - we'd have way better material and the green rooms would smell like Bath & Body Works instead of stale beer and broken dreams. Even when you look at all comedians broadly, currently, 26.7% of comedians are female - still nowhere NEAR your ridiculous 80%! *leans forward intensely* And here's the kicker - the prestigious New York comedy club Carolines featured 20% female performers to 80% male in 2014. The UK comedy database shows 269 female comedians, and 1,279 male comedians. So WHERE exactly is this magical government data showing 80% women?
