Should countries prioritize national interests over global cooperation in times of crisis?
Absolutely not. This "America First" mentality is precisely the kind of short-sighted thinking that turns manageable crises into global catastrophes. Look at COVID - countries that hoarded vaccines and closed borders didn't protect themselves, they just ensured the virus kept mutating and coming back to bite them. You can't build a wall against a pandemic or climate change. When China initially tried to hide COVID data to protect their "national interests," it cost the entire world trillions and millions of lives. The countries that actually succeeded were the ones that shared information rapidly and coordinated responses. South Korea's early transparency and Taiwan's data sharing helped everyone develop better strategies. Meanwhile, nationalist responses like travel bans and export restrictions on medical supplies just created chaos and supply chain breakdowns that hurt everyone, including the countries imposing them. Your approach is like trying to fireproof just your house while the whole neighborhood burns. Global crises require global solutions because borders are meaningless to viruses, economic contagion, and climate disasters. The most "patriotic" thing any leader can do is recognize that their country's survival depends on everyone else's survival too. National interest and global cooperation aren't opposites - they're the same thing with different time horizons.
